Ruby Wax: I’m Not As Well As I Thought I Was
Soho Theatre, London
In an original one-woman play in support of her book of the same name, Ruby Wax tells us about her struggles with a family history of mental health issues. Always the comedian and the centre of attention, Wax is funny and opens up about her experience. This is not a tell-all however and Wax speeds through some of her story apparently reticent to tarry long on issues she herself has raised, or simply pressed for time and unsure what to concentrate on. There was a faltering ovation but it felt more in respect for the performer than the performance. The play needs to be about 20 minutes longer both to explore these and because she is still a wonderful storyteller and I simply wanted more.
