Kate Smurthwaite

Kate Smurthwaite is a British stand-up comedian, writer, broadcaster, and political activist known for combining comedy with outspoken commentary on feminism, secularism, science, and current affairs. She has become a prominent figure in UK political comedy through her long-running News at Kate series and more than two decades of performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Her work frequently blends stand-up, satire, and social commentary, often addressing issues such as gender equality, religion, free speech, and public policy. Smurthwaite has appeared as a commentator and panellist on programmes including Question Time, Woman’s Hour, Newsnight, BBC News, and Sky News, and is also known for her activism with feminist, humanist, and reproductive-rights organisations.
